I grew up watching Emergency Vets, and loved every minute of it. It inspired me to investigate animal care as a career path, and while I was never able to follow that dream, I learned so much during my personal endeavors. E-Vets is what every other veterinary reality show wants: a balance between animals, people, and storytelling.
I also had the opportunity to meet Dr Kevin Fitzgerald myself, though it wasn't in the best context. He treated my beloved pet rabbit, a minilop named Teddy, on Christmas Day of 2017. It was the worst day of my life, but he made it so much better. While my rabbit passed away due to his illness at 8 years old, Dr Fitzgerald was the kindest and most considerate vet I ever met.
He helped me calm down while I was having a panic attack (Teddy was my prescribed emotional support animal for PTSD) and reassured me that my bunny's illness wasn't my fault, only a factor of age. I wish I'd been in a better state so I could have told him how much the show meant to me. Not every kid gets to be personally reassured by their childhood hero. Alameda East is a godsend for people like me.
Emergency Vets is a must-see for viewers who enjoyed shows such as The Incredible Dr Pol, The Vet Life, Dr Jeff: Rocky Mountains Vet, Dr Dee: Alaska Vet, and more. Your heart strings will be tugged, but seeing the animals post-recovery will bring tears of joy to your eyes.
