After seeing several negative reviews and people expecting the worst, I didn't expect too much from this movie, but... it was good?
It certainly did try to go back to the suspenseful vibe of the original trilogy instead of the chill action movie focus of the second trilogy. In my opinion, this movie was at least as good as Jurassic World and certainly better than Fallen Kingdom or Dominion.
I'm not gonna tell you it added some amazing story or had some fantastic characters or added new concepts to the lore, but as a movie, it was a good amount of scary, fascinating and fun. Maybe I'm biased after the last two movies felt like they strayed from the concept we wanted, but hey, I had a good time.
I thought I'd be rolling my eyes at the family that gets stuck in the middle of things, but they were okay. They felt a little frustrating at times, but I never felt like they overstayed their welcome.
My only real two disappointments were in the first minutes of the movie... Firstly where we are told that dinosaurs no longer exist in most of the world anymore, just after the last two movies insisted on heading in that direction. Why couldn't they have this exact movie concept without leaving behind all the setup from the previous movies? They could have just continued this plot without saying anything about the rest of the world and it would have been fine.
Secondly, the expert on prehistoric creatures refers to Mosasaurs and Pterosaurs as dinosaurs and this sucked because it's factually incorrect. This is decades into the Jurassic franchise and they definitely should have done enough research to not say something stupid like that in their movie.
Other than that, if you're just looking for a cool action-thriller-horror that takes place in the Jurassic World franchise, then this was a pretty cool one.
