Review of Lucifer 2: Empuraan
An Unfair Portrayal Wrapped in Political Drama
Lucifer 2: Empuraan positions itself as a gritty political thriller, but underneath the dramatic visuals and star-studded cast lies an uncomfortable narrative choice that seems to veer into propaganda. The film appears to portray Hindu characters as violent and regressive, using symbolism and dialogue that could easily be interpreted as targeting one specific community.
This portrayal is not only misleading but also deeply unfair. Hinduism, one of the worldโs oldest religions, is rooted in the values of peace, tolerance, and universal acceptance. Its philosophy promotes "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" โ the world is one family โ a principle that embodies inclusivity, not violence. Misrepresenting such a culture in mainstream cinema creates an incorrect perception for audiences unfamiliar with its depth and moral values.
Meanwhile, the film sidesteps the reality that extremist behavior is not tied to any one religion but to individuals who misuse ideology. Painting one religion as oppressive while avoiding mention of global issues like terrorism, which has seen significant involvement from radicalized elements of other faiths โ particularly Islamic extremism in many parts of the world โ comes across as selective storytelling.
Cinema has the power to unite, inspire, and educate. But when it chooses to polarize and misrepresent, it loses its ethical ground. Lucifer 2: Empuraan might succeed as a piece of entertainment for some, but for many others, it will leave behind a sense of discomfort and misrepresentation.
Rating: 2/5 โ Visually engaging, but morally disappointing.
