I am so dissapointed and sad. I loved The Great British Baking show when I discovered it a couple of years after it started. What a lovely, classy competition that featured spectacular bakes and interesting personalities. I am an American and was so taken with the kind and decent way a competitive show was handled. In the U.S. all shows are so nasty and full of hype. It's so obvious that they invent and blow up small things to make it look more cut throat, tense and even insulting. I was excited when the show came here and they tried the Great American Baking Show. more to watch! But, I was terribly dissapointed then too. Just like all American show competitions, they had taken the lovely, classy, kind, informative gem and "Americanized" it, making the male judge, some little known snarky fellow with none of Paul's charm or knowledge. And the two hosts, instead of being funny, but genuine, were tacky and loud and totally obnoxious. Even Mary Berry's presence couldn't save the show. You would think the Brits would have learned something from that fiasco. Apparently not, as this new version is much less like the old, a lovely, perfect recipe deserving of star baker every time. And much more like the failed American version, Lacking in flavor and substance and more "raw" than Paul Hollywood would ever have accepted. This one should never have made it into the tent! I won't be watching, so sad it's over.
