It's notable and a little strange, if not unexpected, how much television programming has changed since the 90s. Nevertheless, it's wonderful to see Picard on screen again. Rather than looking at Star Trek through a window, this new series feels like seeing the universe from within. I'm not going to call this the most amazing thing on television, but I definitely want to see more.

The movie itself is definitely worth watching. The story isn't very original, but it's solid. The major stumble was the directing, and didn't meet the expectations of a Marvel movie. The lead actor never looked "involved" with her universe; she looked like an actor fresh to the set and unaware of her character's motivation. If she had been playing a robot attempting to understand being human, her delivery would have been perfect. A few of the physical puns were so cartoonishly telegraphed it was eye-rolling; again, unusual for a Marvel film. The introductory exposition between characters was ham-fisted and unnatural. It wasn't, however, unpleasant to watch, and there were certainly a selection of emotionally moving scenes.
