In recent years, I have accepted to not have any expectations about Disney. Having that said, this movie is okay. It wasn't a huge disappointment like the remake of Aladdin or Mulan were they attempt to choke you with the wrong way of feminism and political points of view that add nothing to the plot.
Reasons why I liked this movie: it's really cool to see how realistic a fantasy movie can be made now with the technology available. The parts of the movie that follow the original one are great and original songs being recreated are so much fun to relive.
Reasons why I didn't love it: in my opinion some of the songs were horrendous and the bird that used to be funny was so annoying in this version. The acting from Ariel and Eric was unsatisfactory even though their singing was really good. I didn't see any chemistry between the characters and their relationship felt forced.
Overall, it is a movie I wouldn't mind watching but Disney has lost its magic from what it used to be. Sometimes in all honesty they just try too hard to the point that they ruin classics. I think it's time for them to invest in creating new characters and stories instead of trying to recreate a live action for everything.
