After years of diligent practice, J.J. Counsilmann finally decided to publish the book documenting his studies of Henan Xinyi Liuhe Quan, a rare Chinese martial art also known as Ten Animals Kungfu. This is the only written document describing the system as taught by one of its last experts, late Master Li Zunsi. Originally from Shenqiu in Henan, where he learnt the Muslim long fist system of Chaquan, Master Li moved first to Hankou, a port on Yangtze river, where he was lucky to meet and be accepted as a disciple by legendary Mai Jinkui. In 1930s Master Li finally moved to Shanghai, where he had soon made a name for himself as a fearless fighter.
Technical writer by profession Jim not only describes the movements in detail, but also the multiple applications that Master Li taught. Short poems and lyrics of blues songs are a nice personal touch to otherwise a technical text.
