What this show gets right is what it lacks: music. All too often movies and shows will ramp up the music before anything jumps out at you, so you know what to expect. Even "Paranormal Activity", which was supposedly uncut "lost footage" would jack up the bass before anything paranormal would happen, allowing you to expect something. That's not the case in "Hill House." You'll be watching an otherwise insignificant scene and be completely unsuspecting that anything horrifying is about to happen.
There have been several scenes where I've physically jumped out of bed, and have led to some nightmares and double-checking dark corners of my house. This series gets it right, just get ready to lose a little sleep because of it.
