Nuclear Winter was something I never imagined myself enjoying when it first released. It was something I had written off and laughed at as part of a game which had overall been a major disappointment. There came a time where I decided to give Fallout: 76 one last try, but was still disappointed with the game overall. Before I uninstalled it, I realized I hadn't given Nuclear Winter a try and decided to at least let that be the straw that broke the camel's back. From the first match in, I was hooked. Prior to giving Nuclear Winter a try, I didn't have any friends to play the game with. Within the first hour of gameplay, I'd met and added at least 8 people to my friends list. Unlike the rest of 76, this game mode had a vibrant community of people who are passionate about it. I've played my fair share of battle royale games in my past, but this one takes the cake (or should I say Overseer) in my book. With that out of the way, let's talk about what it does right:
1. The community is quite passionate and is definitely willing to take new players under their wings. From the moment I first started, people were quick to help me find my way and figure out what build I wanted to run.
2. With the current small size of the community, people recognize each other. Over time I've made friends and rivals out in Morgantown and Flatwoods. If you stick around the community long enough, your name will end up in someone's mouth. (For better or for worse)
3. Of all of the battle royale games out there on the market, this one has the most customizability for the player to toy with. From your perks to the clothes on your back, there are hundreds of options. This allows for players to find the build they like, and use it to their advantage.
4. Strategy. As mentioned above, everyone can choose what they're running, and as a battle royale, you can can come up with strategies on how to best synergize in battle and support each other. In tendem with typical strategy found in battle royale, such as positioning and ambush tactics, this allows for more diverse gameplay than found in any other battle royale on the market.
5. The Atomic Shop outfits are given a purpose. In adventure mode, people like to show off their armor or they might once in a blue moon find themselves taken with an outfit or mask and will wear it. With Nuclear Winter, it defines your look and can give you some advantage should you choose a more passive strategy.
