A shallow, uninspired movie masquerading as a "Spider-Man" adventure.
In typical Marvel and Disney fashion, the film is riddled with jokes that undercut serious moments, the side characters are nothing but comic relief, and the final act as usual is a big CGI fest (barring the Mysterio effects, those were really cool and honestly accentuate his character).
While I won't delve too deep into details, I do want to point out FFH's biggest weakness: it feels soulless, and that's honestly the last thing you'd want to associate with a Spider-Man flick.
The character of Spider-Man is grossly misrepresented in this movie, as he continues to be an unrelatable character that always gets the girl and faces little to no consequences for his actions. He doesn't feel like Peter Parker, as most of his traits seem to be based more on Ms Marvel Kamala Khan and Miles Morales (both great characters in their own right), creating a character that is Peter Parker in name only.
The side characters have it even worse on the other hand: Ned Leeds isn't Ned leeds, but rather an uninspired version of Ganke Lee, Miles' Morales' best friend, Betty Brant is another teenager that has the most cringe inducing scenes in this movie and Flash Thompson is an unpopular loser who also doesn't pose much threat to Peter's social life (atleast compared to Homecoming). But the worst offender is Aunt May, who not only doesn't seem to care about her nephew being Spider-Man, she doesn't seem to care about his well being in the slightest, and her romance with Happy Hogan is a mixed bag. Uncle Ben not even being acknowledged and being replaced by Iron Man is perhaps the greatest sin this movie has committed.
While this is a fun movie, it is a bad Spider-Man movie (funny I know), and honestly something that really depressed me when I checked it out in theaters.
