For the first time in a long time, we are presented with a horror film that tries to be something more than a money-hungry movie. The flow, cinematography, musical score, and acting really made it a must-recommended film for me. Though it only looks like another haunted-house trope, beyond that there is the main threat/horror, and that is the toxic patriarchy that exists in all of us.
Needless to say, the movie still has some flaws dealing with its use of jumpscares (typical of Philippine cinema). However, I do think that the movie is a step in the right direction, and those willing to watch something close to home should give Kwaresma a try.
