nothing special. this series is just kind of meh. it starts off really well and then goes down from there. i didn't like it very much.
it's pretty much a rip off harry potter but elves instead of wizards and a female chosen one. i really like the concept of the lost cities, but the story line and characters are cliche, nothing new or interesting.
you have your standard friend group of personality-less over powered main character, girly girl, joker boy, tech whiz, and cool guy, and the story line follows your standard "person discovers they're not human and are a special chosen one for some other species, trains their powers, and then saves the world". you have your elvin version of death eaters, called the never seen, and you even have your elvin version of hogwarts, foxfire, where the elves go to train their powers and stuff.
sophie, our main character, is the most personality deprived over powered mary sue character ever. she's got 5 million abilities and is super powerful. she's got all these guys tripping over their feet to win her over. and does shannon messenger really need to go out of her way to talk about how her hair "glistens in the light"?
like i said, cliche. it starts of very strong, but i wouldn't recommend it. it looked very promising at the start but went downhill from there and i ended up disappointed.
however, i will say that i enjoyed the concept of the lost cities, and how cities from our myths and folklore are what they called "lost cities" and how they have their caste system built off of what abilities the elves have, which i haven't seen before.
but other than that, it's pretty much either "seen that already" or "way too mary sue".
this series has a lot of potential, but i would say that shannon messenger should start over and rethink many things to make them new and different! she can be very creative, such as how she lets the fans vote on iggy's new fur color, but it seems like she made a rip off harry potter.
