"Me Before You" is meant to be a tragedy, not an advertisement for euthanasia. The message is NOT that a disability makes life worthless. It is just the opposite. It is no coincidence that Lu Clark's boyfriend, Patrick, is a fitness buff. Even though Patrick is physically able and strong, he is not Lu's match. It is actually Will Traynor, the weak, paralyzed man, who turns out to be Lu's soul mate. The message is that physical ability has nothing to do with compatability. Lu has nothing in common with Patrick, but instead connects strongly with Will on a mental, emotional and spiritual level. She finds happiness with the paralyzed man, NOT the physically fit boyfriend Patrick. "Me Before You" gets a big thumbs up for opening a dialogue on the controversial subject of assisted suicide. How heartbreaking that Will did not realize the incredible value his intelligent, witty, entertaining, kind, loving BRAIN had. He was not a burden, even though he thought he was - so sad.
