Providing an excellent overview of the history of the IDEA of communication, Peters forces communication scholars, practitioners, and lay participants to reconceptualize what it means to communicate. Peters has us question whether we can reach perfect, idealized, and angelic shared meaning, whether we merely exist alone together, or whether the fact that communication will always have an inevitable 'chasm' dooms us to nihilism.
If nothing else, it makes for a nice coffee mug.
