I personally think the first film was much better. Although all actors do a good job in the second one, I feel the overall storyline and performance of songs in the fist film are portrayed much better. Also, the back story of Sophie's 'dads' from the first film are not carried through in the prequal, so certain details don't make sense. Perhaps it's due to the lack of Meryl Streep's overarching presence (which seemed like the wrong move) but I just feel Mamma Mia 2 didn't grab my full attention. It wasn't as funny and with being such a success the fist time and having a great cast, it was disappointing that the plot could not be better developed. The constant change between past and present was often tiresome and certain scenes where
disjointed and random/uneccessary (like the said killing-off of Donna or the surprise appearance of Cher at the end). I normally hate musicals but I actually loved the first Mama Mia - Mama Mia 2 did not leave me feeling the same satisfaction and was deffinitely a bit of a lack-lusture production considering having a fairly high budget and being a highly antisipated film.
