Rib tickling comedy with a socially relevant theme.
Mayabazar 2016, directed by radhakrisha and produced by PRK productions, is a well narrated story enacted by the best ensemble possible.
The story revolves around 3 protagonists who plan : A small time thief (Kubera) in need of urgent money, a poor boy (Raji)-rich girl couple in need of urgent money and a rented house living honest police officer(joesph) in need of urgent money. They plan multiple heists in the form of income tax raids .The major real life twist of our times - demonetization is intelligently woven into the plot to deliver one of the best comedies of recent times.
Performances:
Every single artist shines in this movie. Raj B Shetty as Kubera delivers his best comic performance yet. His episodes with huchcha venkat's character and tax raids are hilarious. Vashishta's attempt at comedy and romance works very well. The phone conversation between him and the lover is fun to watch. Chaitra rao excels in her first big role on the silver screen. Her hospital episode is touching in particular. Achyuth rao as joseph takes one on an emotional ride with his conviction to save his wife. Small, moments like his son's acknowledgement of his honesty, his wife's pledge to preserve his integrity, and the helping hand he receives are heartwarming.
Sadhu kokila as pataki pandu is at his best. It's easily his funniest role in recent memory.
Sudharani as the ailing police officer's wife is natural as only she can be.
Prakash rai's ACP Ashok supports the story wonderfully with his comic timing.
Also, watchout for PRK's foot tapping number before the end credits.
Technically, the movie is good with crisp editing and adequate music supporting the scenes. The idea of inserting sai kumar's scene at kubera's place and huchcha venkat's song at the bar is amazing. Photography is excellent with the best scene captures in emotional sequences.
