I've always believed that a remake should deliver far more than the original: additional plot points or Greater visuals/effects etc. This movie only achieved the latter for me. It looked amazing, but at a cost. The nuanced emotional expression that animators had license to create in the original was lacking in buckets here. As for the plot, the main story arc is retained, but as much of the dialogue has been stripped away, the audience is given less of a ride. Almost all the characters and their development has been reduced somewhat: Scar somehow isn't the threat he was, simba becomes a petulant child rather than the brave strong hearted cub in the original. Timon and Pumbaa are enjoyable, and perhaps the scenes involving them are the only acceptable adaptions.
In short, if you have seen and loved the original then expect nothing new (and a whole lot less) from this remake.
