True to the classic. Great fun gameplay for multiple players with a lot of nods to the of the Roots of modern games. However that is it's biggest downfall because it doesn't take advantage of modern technology. For example, just like in the original Genesis versions, hit boxes are weird and hard to detect. Here's hoping Streets of Rage 5 will bring the series to the 21st century.
