This is the best Marvel origin film ever, better than Black Panther, with a more likable and relatable protagonist than any in any CBM save for Wonder Woman. Not only is Carol instantly a protagonist you root for and want to succeed, her supporting cast is incredible and all of them (especially Lynch, Jackson and Mendelsohn) elevate their material in incredible ways. There are tie-ins to the first Avengers, as well as intriguing hints of what's to come in Phase 4. I was expecting an average movie that succeeded solely on Brie Larson's acting merits: but no, the movie is incredible, and Larson, while the key ingredient in this wonderful cinematic recipe, is not the only thing going for this movie: Nick Fury is the best he's been in years, the storyline is rich and complex, layered like Winter Soldier or Civil War, the buddy-cop dynamic between Fury and Danvers is great, with some of the best humor in an MCU film, the space aspect is not as developed as the stuff on earth, but sets up well for the future and the cosmic MCU, and there are some incredible twists that have me very excited to see what happens next - not just in Endgame, but also in Captain Marvel 2. Me and my sisters, who I went to see this with, all loved the film: the third act battle is better than that of Wonder Woman, and the CGI is beautiful.
