It's not a 5-star film; in fact, not many films written for children are. What matters most is Paramount's dedication to the fans and fandom - allowing the film to be more than the contract originally entailed.
Not only does this make a great film for kids, but it's an honest callback for long time fans of the series and plenty of good comedy for adults to wrap their heads around. The commitment to the Sonic redesign shows, and has even bled further into the writing of the movie. Sonic was a character originally designed to sell himself, and his looks, attitude, and voice acting capture that perfectly for a 21st century audeince.
If you haven't already, make a family outing out of this movie and see the buzz for yourself.
