Maybe consider the possibility that Kelly Reichardt, the director, knows what she's doing. The absence of closure at the end is deliberate. The film is more about the gradual and ultimately necessary shift in the group's power dynamic than it is about some gratifying resolution of the plot. Maybe don't go into every movie expecting it to satisfy you in a predictable way like, say, a meal at the Cracker Barrel.
