Saw the first episode, and been catching up on the rest on iview. Very good acting. And just makes you realise the risks, but the emotions too. Like finding someone had passed on early cried. seeing someone pick through their house that burnt to the ground, I nearly cried.
You kinda form a bond with the people even if they’re only on for one episode or two, but it’s enough to make you want them to be okay. You become invested in them and their lives and their stories.
We hear about Fires. We smell them. When I grew up we had ash and live embers falling in our backyard and we could stand in our street and see the Dandenong’s a blaze. I flew over back Saturday burnings in Victoria, many years later on an interstate trip. I Could not believe the amount of black land. You could even see trees sticking up that were just sticks and the shadow created that you could see it from the plane. It was so eerie, and humbling and utterly devastating to see from the air, Just how far it spread. We heard on the news but to see it from the sky for miles and miles and miles and as far as the eye could see was black
Flew back A week or so later and flew over so we could see what was happening Gibsland way. We could see the fires out of one window of the plane. And it took up the whole plane apparently every window
On that particular side of the plane, had a view. It was ,again, humbling and scary to see just how much damage has been done And was still happening. I sat there and cried. I got off the plane and I could smell smoke and I knew it was from the fires I just flown nearby. I cannot imagine the fear these people felt black Saturday. we had grass land behind us and I had a bag packed ready to go. But living in the forest, even if you need the beach, you just can’t comprehend how scared and devastating and hopeful and all the emotions of these people feel. And the TV show actually gives you a slight moment to make you feel with them. Both firies and the towns people. I sat there half the time with my breath held waiting. We only see a snippet of what they’re feeling from a safety point of you. My heart goes out to every single person affected by the bushfires. And I think it’s good that the show is out there to show The people affected . Yes it’s a TV show, yes it is elected and based on true events but from moment you get a glimpse. And you can’t comprehend even what they’re thinking. Though the show does a really good job of trying to help you empathise. But it needs to be seen. Fires are dangerous; fires kill
And it’s a good way especially with fire season approaching , I guess, showing the realities and hopefully saving peoples lives
I know there’s a few criticisms on here on it but it’s compelling. And it takes you on a rollercoasters of emotions good bad and everything in between. I think it’s been very very well done and worth a watch
