TENET spoiler free review:
After 2 months of waiting, I was finally able to see TENET in IMAX 1570mm, one of 13 cinemas in the world that have the original film shot during production. The cinema was packed (COVID spacing though) and everyone was hyped, fun fact, I was the youngest as far as I could tell. The first 15-30 mins was crazy, and honestly, the only part of the film I didn’t enjoy due its fast pacing. Everything else was some of the best cinema I’ve ever experienced, especially the final 30 mins and the middle scenes. The choreography of these fight scenes were stunning, the way the reversed fights worked were compelling and made sense. The way inversion was some of the most realistic and potentially achievable time travel in real life. And the music was phenomenal, I had been listening to the soundtrack for ages now, and to here it in the cinema was incredible. Now the acting on this film had its ups and downs, but overall everybody brought their A-game. John David Washington as the protagonist was a clever choice as he is a new and unknown actor, also effectively a sci fi black James Bond. Robert Pattinson as Neil provided excellent comic relief with his witty one liners and bromance between himself and the protagonist, arguably my favourite character. The female lead, Elizabeth Debicki played Kat, the abused wife of Sator, pivotal to the movie as she carries the emotional weight. Finally the antagonist Kenneth Brannagh as Andrei Sator, every time he appeared on screen I was terrified. Whilst sometimes campy, you felt his presence as if he was about to hurt you in real life. It’s going to take another 2 viewings to fully appreciate this masterpiece , as any other piece of art does. Currently I’m giving TENET an 8.5/10, but I’m sure as I watch it again it will only get better, Thank you Christopher Nolan
