***SPOILERS***
I’d give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars. I see people giving it 1 or 2 stars saying “worst horror movie ever.” The movie is a horror/mystery. Essentially making it a thriller.
Very good acting.
In the beginning of the movie the father, Frank, tells his younger son, Aiden, to stay in the truck and not leave no matter what. Frank loved his son and was protecting him, even though he was a meth addict, he didn’t want Aiden near anything he was doing.
Then why was Aiden in the truck? I don’t know.
Aiden then hears noises and goes and checks on his father, and low and behold Frank is sick with the Wendigo, along with Aiden.
The older son, Lucas, takes it upon himself to care for them and feed them through out the movie, while his teacher, Julia, who has a past of father abuse shown twice in the movie through her PTSD, finds disturbing drawings in Lucas’s desk.
Julia then decides to find out what’s going on, and save Lucas.
The Wendigo itself was well made and thrilling.
There were flashbacks of Frank yelling at Lucas and Aiden telling them to stay away from him because “Daddy is very sick.”
He was protecting his sons, knowing there was nothing he could do at this point.
Lucas then told his Dad that Aiden wasn’t feeling good, and right then and there Frank knew that Aiden was done with too…thus snatching Aiden with him, protecting Lucas.
It bothered me at first that Julia was the one that killed the Wendigo towards the end, because it was killing officers and grown men, but somehow she could beat it?
She had drive though.
She had experienced abuse from her father in her past, and what she saw was Lucas being abused by his Father.
Also, she was the only one besides Warren, the man who told the Native myth, that believed what was going on.
I give this 4 stars because I feel that the battle with the Wendigo was very short. But the situations in this film were handled pretty realistically, and had purpose.
The very end was chilling, and sort of made up for the short battle.
Hopefully Julia has enough drive in her to know her own brother, Paul is now sick with the Wendigo!
