The show only scratches the surface of the themes in the original book, focusing heavily on relationships while mostly disregarding the early indoctrination of parentless children. In the beginning of the show I liked that it made me question our own society, commentating on capitalism vs communism, but that kind of engagement wore off as plot lines started to focus more on relationships. I'm really hoping for more to come, because the visuals were really great, but I'm not really liking the "Chosen One" narrative that they're forcing on the characters.
