Narendra Pingale

It was a crisp movie. It showcases the life of Gunjan Saxena, how she got to Kargil and the difficulties she had to overcome. It portrayed what it wanted to portray. It does not have too many war sequences, it’s more about the journey till that point. Maybe some bits were exaggerated or dramatised as the disclaimer states but it was a good movie nonetheless. Very good acting by everyone, especially Jahnvi and Pankaj Tripathi (as always). I personally was very impressed by Jahnvi’s acting and all the hate the movie is getting is a bit unfair (in my opinion). I’d rate the movie 3.5/5 and would recommend people to watch it.

A very average movie with hardly any depth at all. The acting by Vidya Balan and Sanya Malhotra is good but could have been way better if well directed. The movie felt like watching her Wikipedia page, which is kind of sad because there was so much good material to work with. Even though they named it Shakuntala Devi, this movie is more about how her daughter remembers her (as they mention in the beginning). So it’s neither here nor there. The fact that “she can calculate faster than a computer, wrote a book on homosexuality, holds a Guinness world record, never had a proper childhood, became an astrologer and even ran elections” was covered in 15-20 minutes while the remaining 100 minutes was about how she felt wronged by her mother and how that in turn affected her as a mother. Some people may still like it but I personally felt pretty disappointed. It’s one of the “so near yet so far” kind of movies for me.

Very well shot. Acting by everyone was amazing, especially Cem Yigit. It documents all the events surrounding the siege of Constantinople in 1453 AD. If you've ever visited Istanbul, you can actually feel why this city was so coveted. Made me want to visit the city again. I felt it could have ended better though. Even a brief commentary on what happened after Sultan Mehmet II took the throne would have been nice.
