I finished this series a short while ago and have to admit that I watched it fairly compulsively. However, like other reviewers there were times when I found some of the scenes rather unpleasant. However, it was never so compelling that I couldn't turn off, if I wanted to.
I agree that it does draw the viewer in with an addictive story line in Season 1 when it is a story of man against prehistoric parasite - pretty standard sci fi fodder but with an interesting twist of gruesome murders to solve. It is also an interesting portrayal of the challenges of living in a small isolated community in crisis. What follows in Season 2/3 does get increasingly convoluted, confusing and unpleasant but remains gripping to the very end.........
Would I recommend it as fun family viewing - absolutely NOT. Stick to The Lion King
