I picked this up hoping for a good dose of escapism from COVID and lockdowns - a description of what it was like to live in the rawness of nature, and what can be learned from such a lifestyle. This was true of about 30% of the book, and it was what kept me reading.
However, the other 70% of the book was around the author's struggles with personal relationships and mental health. I feel for the author, and hope he has now found peace, but it's not what I expected in such a book. As such, the book's length could easily have been halved without losing much of interest.
To be fair, I suspect that what any reader wants to get out of this book will colour their perceptions of it. Some readers may enjoy the emotional turbulence that match the storms outside the lighthouses - I didn't.
If you want escapism, look elsewhere.
