I enjoyed this movie quite a lot, especially how Tony slowly comes to understand how Dr. Shirley faces racism in virtually all situations except for when he is performing on the Steinway & Sons on stage.
My favorite lines from the movie are:
"If I’m not black enough, and I’m not white enough, and I’m not man enough, then tell me, Tony, what am I?" -- Dr. Shirley describing how he finds it difficult to fit in to any part of society.
"You asked me once why Dr. Shirley does this. I tell you, because genius is not enough. It takes courage to change people’s hearts." -- this is the Russian guy, Olek, explaining to Tony why Dr. Shirley chose to come to the south to play music.
"I wouldn’t wait. You know, the world’s full of lonely people afraid to make the first move." -- this is Tony giving Dr. Shirley advice on being proactive in doing the things he wants to do.
