A friend and I went to see this movie, saying, "Hey, I guess we'll see the dog movie." This movie was SO MUCH MORE than a "dog movie". As I watched, I thought it was a mostly going to be about a dog, then I thought it was going to be more about racing, and then I watched the development of the human relationships, both uplifting and angering. This film tied all of these things together in a very believable way. And the emotion it draws out of you? It was so much more than I was anticipating and actually got blindsided by it, thinking (and saying), "What is this movie doing to me??" I felt happiness, sadness, anger, hope, anxiety... this may be one of the year's best films.
