I understand if fans of the original story's find this re-working unpalatable, yet can only state that for myself, someone who has not read the originals or even really seen previous actors incarnations of the Poirot character, I found this one riveting and totally enjoyable, and in its way introduced me to the character and story's.
The dark, brooding and shadow ridden version portrayed by John Malkovich, had me on the end of my seat. I personally like the idea of playing around, and placing a new twist to classic story's, as long as its done well, and I feel this was.
I've read that the history background to Poirot introduced by this version, is different to the original, yet I feel this just added intrigue and another character aspect to play around with if any more editions are made, to which I sincerely hope so.
