Loved this movie---so intense in the way Fosse's choreography is still. Dark, sensuous, very funny in a bleak way begins to cover it a bit. I wish it were available to stream from somewhere.

A favorite for a long time. Perhaps not really PC at this time in terms of casting and other more recent developments but Alec Guinness does here what he does so well, stepping into another culture and bring us along with him. His Mr. Asano is admirable. Rosalind Russell is a perfect yenta. Could not believe my eyes when I recognized George Takei as Mr. Asano's son. We could learn quite a bit from the examples we see here.

The British upper-middle class was never captured more eloquently than by John Galsworthy. This first production that was one of Masterpiece Theatre's initial centerpieces is a trifle dated in style but the heart of the novels is there. The battle between commerce and art as well as duty vs love. It makes for fine for melodrama.

Having loved the Montgomery books, I had a bit of a wrestle with this updating of one of my favorites from childhood. I'm fine with it now, having wrestled with the changes much like Marilla and Matthew had to deal with the changes in their lives when Anne came to stay with them. I've seen the series twice now and must say the way it is retold opens up the narrative to modern audiences. I may prefer the novels still and they will be here for readers to discover in the years to come if reading the original seems the thing to do. What won me over was the amazing casting more than the additions to the plot. Even more importantly, Anne's story is being told. I am pleased about that.
