I wanted to watch the movie because the book was so good. Man was I disappointed. This movie is terrible. The adaptation is nothing like the book. If you haven't read the book before watching it, you will be very confused, as the scenes just switch willy nilly and it's very confusing, even with reading the book, everything was so out of order and skipped to points that happened in the book but weren't played out correctly. Not to mention, they took DeVante completely out of the story, and decided to kind of merge his character with Seven's. Chris had lost all his meaningful moments with Starr, that made his character important. We see this a lot with their emotional moments that they shared but none of those were included, and during the riots, instead of staying, he had left, which made me angry man. there are no connections between Carlos and the family aside from it being mentioned he's Starrs uncle. The meaningful moments that were present were not presented as such, and were poorly done. We see this also with Hailey, she isn't portrayed as she is supposed to be in the book, and seemed to had make her more "redeemable". They cut out all parts with Maya, all parts with Seven and his family, and the movie was just so all over the place. The ending was even more angry because they made Sekani hold a weapon towards king to "symbolize" that tupac saying that Kahlil mentions at the beginning. It was incredibly disappointed and took away all the meaningful parts that made the book special. No relationships, we don't know half the people (like the shop owners), and we don't know their stories. Terrible movie adaptation. Just read the book instead.
