Very disappointing, except for outstanding performance by Anthony Hopkins. I blame the director for Brad Pitt’s awkward and uncomfortable performance. He was gorgeous, of course, but his love interest was miscast and had zero chemistry with him. The love scene was excruciating to watch. Mechanical with no tenderness. I think Brad was perfectly cast for Joe Black, but directed poorly; Anthony Hopkins was wonderful, following his own direction; and the supporting cast was very good. I’m sad and a bit angry, because, except for the female lead and some misguided direction, I believe Meet Joe Black could have been a very special film, perhaps a classic.
