Christopher Stones

This is a brilliant WW2 film depicting the battles with U boats in the Atlantic. I have watched it on Apple TV as few times and it is very enthralling. Tom Hanks as usual is superb and Elisabeth Shue, from Back to the Future movies looks good, albeit, a small part at the beginning. I have also read the book that this is based on by C S Forester and on this occasion, I reckon the film is better than the book. The graphics of the U boat battles are really impressive and everything looks authentic with the period. My only gripe was that Tom Hanks used the phrase, "wait till we have eyes on it". I don't think this was used in those days, it would have been, "wait until it is in sight". When the film comes out on blu ray, I shall definitely buy it. Great film, love it.

Absolutely terrible film. Probably the worst I have tried to watch for ages. having watched the first 30 minutes or so with nothing happening I started skipping through it. I realised then that it was not going to get any better so stopped watching it. I normally like Bill Murray but in this film he is awful. I don't think this film will go down well in the UK, there is just nothing in it, droll and boring all the way through.

I have not read the book but watched the TV series. Hopefully the book is better than the tv version. It had a good cast but that is about the only positive thing you could say about it. The whole thing was like a poor Brian Rix farce. The women were nymphomaniacs and the men were buffoons. It just trundled on from one episode to the next depicting how stupid the British were. Definitely not my cup of tea, it was embarrassing.

This is a great story and keeps you guessing for a lot of the time. In parts it gets a bit tedious when he goes off on one of his psychological character rants. In other parts the storyline is quite riveting. Also there seems to be a story missing at the end following Dimitri's sentence. Overall though its Dostoyevsky at his best. It took me three attempts to get into "Crime and Punishment" but with this one I was hooked straight away. Great book.
