This is an all time favourite movie of mine and for all the right reasons. This simple story about a young boy coming of age in a small Sicilian town dives into his obsession and eventual love and respect for the town's most beautiful woman, Malena. Throughout the movie since the beginning till the near end, he stalks her, dreams of her, fantasizes romantic scenes with her, and ultimately learns of her true human nature and falls in love with her. The boy, Renato, goes to the extend of even trying to protect her when she falls vulnerable and lonely. It shows how a young boy learns the first lessons on falling in love and despite lusting after Malena initially like every pervert in the Italian town, she indirectly teaches him the value of love and humanity when times get hard during WW11. A thought provoking and emotion stirring masterpiece, it should easily fall into the list of 100 movies to watch before you die. Too bad I haven't come across a single Hollywood movie of the same kind.

One of the finest books I've ever read under the romantic genre. Deeply heart wrenching and emotional, the novel is based on a rich man's love, loss, obsession, and the need to withhold memories to its finest detail as made apparent in the construction of a museum after the death of his lover. To me, this book describes the need and longingness of a never ending love despite changes in times and circumstances the narrator faces in his lifespan until his death. It teaches me that cities may change, times may change and memories may get old but love remains constant. The worst bit about the book is that it ends, and the best bit is that the narrator starts off his story describing his surge of happiness and has it ended with the same expression. A must read!
