It plays itself out scene by scene like the video game itself. It pokes fun of itself and really doesn’t try to be too serious. As a viewer, watching this for the plot would be silly. But as a person who has ever once touched the sticks and played the game, it’s a blast. The story develops quickly, characters are introduced at a reasonable interval and it honestly sets the stage for every combat event exactly as pre-fight cutscenes in game. There’s blood a plenty, kills left and right and enough of those “⬇️⬆️➡️❌” combos that you recognize to make you smile knowingly. The plot rushes towards the end but in a way you respect. Graphically, it’s actually really solid. They used every one of the FX with a careful hand. It’s not so overdone it becomes difficult to enjoy. Overall, the movie was carefully crafted and has the right touch in places you least expect. If you have the time to kill, watch this one.
