I've been a reader of Koontz for many years but his new stuff is getting increasingly irritating and his new habit of interrupting the story to speak to you directly in a patronizing way is simply annoying. Who needs author intrusion?
This is the second of his newer books that I've given up on.

Some people are giving this low reviews because favourite characters went missing. Stay with it because the people who replace them are all superb actors who go on to earn a place in your heart. Other people are criticising the scripts. It's a series about people with powers so it needs a bit of work on your behalf to suspend the disbelief and just enjoy the story, but if you can do that you will be rewarded.
Misfits is like nothing else I have ever seen and it's worth sticking with right up to the last episode. This is rammed full of brilliant intense acting combined with the most absurd and comical storylines you'll ever come across. It's totally unique, it's a rare gem.

I really rate Mark Strong and I really wanted to like this show, but the over use of a LUT to darken it just made my eyes strain. I actually found myself cleaning my glasses because I thought they were affecting my vision but that wasn't the case.
What a strange decision. Made it unwatchable for me.

I've just about finished this book and I'm 99% sure what the "Twist" ending is going to be because you can see it coming from quite a way off, and that's saying something because a lot of the prose in this novel is disconnected and clunky and not natural to follow. I find myself rereading sentences to get them to sit straight in my mind and that means that there's quite a lot of "author intrusion" accidentally happening here.
I really wanted to like this book but it's hard work because it just doesn't flow smoothly at all. I won't be reading another of his novels.
