Watch this flick while fully caffeinated. It’s sort of like having a conversation with someone ADHD at 3AM: 500 topics moving at once or nothing at all: You’ll be totally engaged one minute, a second later waiting for death ... yet, a minute after that, wondering what the heck has been said. We paused the television, discussed flick, all of us asking the same questions: WHAT is happening and did we all fall asleep at some point? Resumed the movie, which speeds up and falls flat. It’s a story that’s all dressed up and nowhere to go. Anne Hathaway is good, but maybe too intense a performance in contrast to other actors; then again, maybe not. Maybe they’re just so painfully dull that she appears brave or crazy and confused. The daughter scenes on the phone should either have been omitted entirely or have had a deeper relevance to the storyline. Sort of pointless interjections here or there. Overall, in my opinion, the highs could have been adrenaline-type-rushing, higher. Seedy parts could have been eerily seedier. Too much inconsistency, but the very end, as in last 7 minutes, were pretty good. Lots of potential for those heart pounding moments; and the few that came, happened way too late to matter.
