I’ve read and listen to the books many, many times. I’ve been looking forward to this TV series ever since I read Harriet sold it to Sony. They virtually had to completely screw it up for me not to love it. They have done a great production. But if I was in charge there’s a few things I would do different. Note very minor spoiler alerts. 1. It is way, way too melancholy and melodramatic. Not everybody has to whisper and speak and soft voices the entire time. The music doesn’t have to be depressing and slow all the time. Even the opening tune is slow and very hard to remember. Please come up with something that’s a little more memorable, little easier to hum. I’m looking for an earwig. 2. Try to get the characters more in line with the awesome personalities that Robert Jordan created. Matt is a fun loving rascal. Perrin is thoughtful, strong, cautious, sure minded. (Yes I think it was a big mistake to have him married and then on top of that to kill his wife). Nynaeve is a loud, stubborn, willful, confident, opinionated strong woman. There are hints of her personality, but there is a long way to go to get the full picture. Lan crying - really??!! Lan should have a personality that could give a rock lessons. Duty the weight of a mountain, death light as a feather. Lan has yet to call Rand sheepherder that has to change. I love what you’ve done with the White cloaks - nailed. And I’m looking forward to see how the other characters are developed. 3. You’re really need to get on board with what the one power is and is not. The fact that the dragon reborn could ever be a woman wielding the male half of the one power is a complete departure from the books. Not sure where you’re going with this but please keep true to the books on how the one power works and how the male half has been tainted. Looking forward to many years of watching this series develop.
