I went with high expectations and left the movie with mixed feelings. Even though Rajini and Shoubin performed their hearts out, the story is flat and almost all the characters except those two are under-utilized. There are so many illogical sequences, incomplete storylines (for example, what happened to Rajini's family or Shruthi Hasan), and wasted characters. The movie might have ended on a high and left the audience a bit more satisfied if the climax had been done properly. Seriously, what's the point of having Amir Khan? When they could have made him a significant threat, they just made him a laughing stock.
Lokesh just replaced the drug cartel storyline with organ theft, and even that was not done properly. None of the scenes showed what happens in the restricted area, seriously !!!. Unless someone put a lot of stress on the director to include these non-essential cameos to create hype, there is absolutely no excuse to make such a flat story.
Anirudh's music just feels like I have heard it somewhere else. It seems like he is regurgitating music from his old movies. They could have done better with some other music director.
Overall rating: 3.5/5, and that's for Rajini and Shoubin. Hopefully, Jailer 2 will be better. Rajini and his fans deserved much better than this flat movie.
