Passing is film excellence that may also make way for a new generation of Nella Larsen fans. Passing is well-filmed, produced, written and directed by Rebecca Hall whose own mother hailed from Detroit, MI and whose operatic talents took her to the UK where she became Lady Maria Hall. I wonder why some viewers are so focused on whether the actresses could pass white 100 years ago? I say they could. I take no issue with the casting, which I hope will be rewarded come awards season time. I wonder if Clare's husband suspected she was passing? I do wonder what happened to Clare and the end was a fascinating cliffhanger. Back to the casting, Negga and Thompson are two phenomenal actresses. I doubt the casting of Rashida Jones or Halsey or any other bi-racial actress would've yielded a better treatment in the roles because I found Negga and Thompson's performances riveting and Negga and Thompson are both bi-racial themselves. P.S.
