Renoir was making some very basis criticisms of the upper class in France using a sledge hammer. Nothing subtle about this film and the characters had no depth, just caricatures. Bored me to tears after about 45 minutes.

An excellent tale about existential angst, in a world where individuals are trying to make their way through a world with one foot in what they perceive to be their own realities, and the other in a world they are told is a mystery they will never be able to make sense of.
