Cogs and Fur
By C.I. Chevron
In her novel Cogs and Fur, Ms. Chevron set her story in London, England, a city suffering poison gases rising from the Thames River, the result of a scientist’s experiments with chemical warfare. The vapors cause mutations in the citizens creating a divide between those who have normal features and those lacking the perfection demanded by the ruling families.
Fear and hate leads to laws allowing, even encouraging, law enforcement to kill those considered mutants—mutants being anyone with a prosthetic leg, arm, hand, eye or repaired body part.
Ms. Chevron’s characters come to life in her detailed scenes of the wealthy’s life style compared to the secret lives of those living in fear of being discovered to be a mutant.
I recommend this book for anyone daring to explore a different time and place than the one they are living in.
