I don't know why so many people are complaining, the show was amazing! It has such a refreshing and fantastical vibe to it. Season 2 was eh, but season 1 topped nearly every other show that I've watched. The characters are well developed, as well as relationships and the plot line is one that'll make you binge the entire thing, swear to god. It's really fantastic, you should really watch it. P.S. I've never read the books, so I can't represent ppl who have read the books.
