(Slightly spoiler free review. Nothing about the plot itself is discussed). If I could do 2.5 stars, I would. This movie was right in the middle for me, where I wouldn't watch it again, nor would I recommend it, but I didn't mind watching it once through.
The narration for me was the thing that killed this movie. It was too much and it felt unnecessary. I already knew what was going on in a scene with a character and the narrator would chime in and hold my hand for me, which I didn't need. It also gave information that wasn't necessary or helped out the plot/scene whatsoever, as if it was popping in like an advertisement with a fun fact. There was also a scene near the beginning that gave narration to an event that happened later and it totally ruined my shock value and emotions for what was about to happen because I was already told.
I felt like the formatting would've been better if we had met all of these characters in their own stories and had them slowly interact so the audience can piece it together themselves, making the ending much more satisfying.
I will say that the acting was superb and I loved everything visually. Run time probably could've been cut down a bit but, eh, once I start watching something I don't really notice haha.
I also know this is based on the book so I can't say to that how well it relates, nor am I an official reviewer or anything, but this is just my two cents!
