It utilizes action sequences and soap opera premises to hook new viewers into the Star Trek brand. For instance there is no rhyme or reason as to how and why battles occur or how they are resolved insofar as much as they are massive. While without spoiling any of the overarching plot there are simperingly deadpan personal drama that was dashed in haphazardly to the extent that the writers have hit a wall in resolving it. Social engineering beats are hit rather than structured storytelling. Michael Burnham is a woman but her name is more a statement about the trans movement. She is perfect at everything and in fact commits a crime that would bar her from a commission in any military or civilian organization. Somehow her crimes are completely washed away without much of an explanation. This crime leads to a massive loss of life and could have been civilization ending.
