Catweazle is a sweet, innocent, brilliantly acted & scripted gem that is still on our TV screens over 50 years later!
I lament that TV producers have abandoned this format for in your face, crash, bang wallop garbage that suffocates children's ability to have an imagination!
There is footage on YouTube of the participants filmed in the year 2000, that portrays why you can't fake excellent on screen chemistry!
Geoffrey Balydon turned down Dr Who (whilst out of work for a long time!) because of the under lying violence & the prospect of scaring children! He would have been the best Dr Who ever, but we would have never seen him as Catweazle which he made his own entirely & robbed us of a TV legend!
Rumours have it that McKenzie Crook is being lined up for a film version of Catweazle, but that's not fair, as it would be like following Sean Connery as James Bond!
There's a German version with the stunning lookalike Otto Waalkes who looks to have done an breathtaking updated version. UK TV INVESTORS & PRODUCERS, HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME, YOU HAVE MISSED A TRICK!!
What is amazing, Geoffrey Bayldon was 46 years old in 1970 & with basic makeup, unique language & body movement, convinced the viewer that he was at least 30 years older!
The energetic theme music is library piece called Busy Boy (by Ted Dicks) & the accompanying classy incidental melodies dovetail perfectly to immerse you into 30 minutes of escapism!
It's currently on Talking Pictures TV, who have a knack for bringing to screen, TV Programmes & films that deserves being reminded of & shown to a new, younger audiences that would appreciate a change from the norm!
I call on thee to watch Catweazle! Sunandum! Hurandos! Salmay Dalmay Adonay! ENJOY!!
