While I generally enjoy this show, I was extremely disappointed with this evening’s depiction of the Irish. Considering one of the main characters has an Irish surname, the show’s archaic and ethnically-prejudiced treatment of the Irish culture shows an insensitivity and feeling that the Irish, unlike many other cultures, can be treated shoddily. I doubt this show would take this approach to many other ethnic groups. It seems the Irish are a people that continue to be victimized by archaic stereotypes with no reprisal. In these days of political correctness, I would expect more thoughtful treatment of ethnic issues. Perhaps the writers of this show only make this deference available to select cultures, or maybe they have an inability to recognize their own biases.
