Compared to the stage performance, the movie lacks any emotion or spark. After seeing the West End production, I expected the movie to be fantastic but clearly the story only suits the stage and not the screen. However, if you have seen the musical then I do encourage you to watch the movie. Many of the original songs are in the movie with a few additions. One new song being ‘This Was Me’, being sung over a video of Hugo’s earlier life which does tell an emotional story about being gay and a drag queen during the 80s and 90s. That was my favourite part of the whole movie but unfortunately everything else was a bit disappointing.
